DESCRIPTION
It is through a realtime collage that Nicolas Bernier and Simon Trottier take on the theme of water in this dyptic :
1. Objet abandonné en mer (Object Left Behind in the Sea)
2. ...et retrouvé en forêt (...and Found in a Forest)
The project navigates through naive music, sound effects, staccato rhythm, and soundscapes. Combining tradition and technology, the two artists deliver melodies influenced by American Primitive guitar genre and quiet ambient music, with continuous and hypnotizing electro-acoustics. The electro-acoustic composer Nicolas Bernier and improvising folk guitarist Simon Trottier have worked together since the summer of 2007. Their album Objet abandonné en mer was also released in September of the same year under the German net-label 12rec, drawing excellent reviews in Canada and Europe. Nicolas Bernier is known for his work in live electronics, the installation, video and music for dance and cinema. As for Simon Trottier, he has worked with a number of instrumental rock and improvised music groups, and has also composed for contemporary dance.
